About The Position

The Digital Content Reporter and Producer will work directly under the Digital Content Coordinator within the Digital Media Center to assist the Alabama Public Radio (APR) news team with gathering, creating and producing high-quality multimedia content for broadcast, web and social media platforms. Researches, pitches, and produces creative local content and feature stories that connect deeply with the West Alabama community. Conducts occasional field interviews and utilizes Adobe Audition to edit audio components for radio packages. Translates audio stories into compelling web articles, ensuring all published news stories feature strong photography, accurate captions and engaging video storytelling elements. Utilizes Canva to design professional graphics for social media and web platforms. Collaborates closely with the digital and editorial staff to maintain journalistic standards, update digital archives and assist with additional production tasks on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate student at The University of Alabama.
  • Ability to interact and communicate in a professional manner with DMC staff, faculty, students, community members and interview subjects.
  • Ability to work independently, manage tight deadlines, keep a consistent schedule and complete assigned work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong creative storytelling, writing and proofreading skills.
  • Proficient in digital content creation, including posting news stories with highly accurate text and captions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a passion for community storytelling and local engagement.
  • Working knowledge of major social media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn and X/Twitter) and an understanding of how to tailor content for different audiences.
  • Must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters.
  • Must maintain enrollment requirements for the duration of on-campus employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient with multimedia tools, including graphic design in Canva, visual storytelling through photo/video, and digital audio editing using Adobe Audition.
  • Ability to independently pitch creative story ideas, conduct interviews and package multi-platform content.
