About The Position

The Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) is seeking a creative and energetic digital content manager on a temporary basis to cover a maternity leave. This role involves managing the organization's social media presence, creating engaging content, and tracking performance across various platforms. The digital content manager will be a key member of the digital team and communications group, implementing the social media content strategy to engage diverse audiences. The position reports to the director of digital strategy and is a hybrid role based in San Francisco or Sacramento. PPIC encourages applications from across California and offers flexibility with in-office requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of experience in digital content, social media, or communications
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience with social media analytics platforms (e.g., Sprout Social)
  • Experience developing and editing graphics, charts/maps, and video.
  • Experience with video production and editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro).
  • Experience with design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel), WordPress, and preferably interactive graphics software (e.g. Tableau, Infogram, DataWrapper).
  • Ability to manage social media across multiple platforms.
  • A solid understanding of brand management; excellent judgement required.
  • Demonstrable project management experience.
  • Proficiency in web and social media analytics.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Interest in California policy issues.
  • Superior listening, written and oral communications skills. Strong editing skills.
  • Adept at building relationships with diverse groups of colleagues across the institute.
  • Able to take initiative, maintain focus, and work independently to manage multiple deliverables and timelines. A problem-solver who is proactive, motivated, and well-organized with keen attention to detail.

  • Working experience in a research organization or a nonpartisan media organization a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day activity across PPIC’s social media channels (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram), maintaining a consistent, engaging voice.
  • Monitor news, California policy developments, and PPIC’s media mentions to identify timely opportunities for relevant, real-time content.
  • Collaborate with the digital team to plan, execute, and evaluate social media campaigns tied to major reports, events, and organizational priorities.
  • Maintain and protect PPIC’s nonpartisan brand across multiple social media channels.
  • Develop, create, and edit high-quality graphics and copy drawn from PPIC research for social media, crafted to engage PPIC’s target audiences (California policymakers, staff, journalists, and the broader California policy community).
  • Choose images for use in published reports, ensuring visuals are high quality, relevant, and consistent with PPIC's style and brand.
  • Shoot and edit high quality short-form social video that promotes PPIC research.
  • Monitor key metrics across social media to track the impact of digital content and campaigns.
  • Track and report out on metrics for social campaigns tied to major reports, events, and organizational priorities.
  • Stay current with digital trends, emerging platforms, and content best practices, and monitor the digital activities of peer organizations for ideas and benchmarking.
