Digital Construction Engineer

TimberlabPortland, OR

About The Position

Work with Senior DC Staff & Assigned Project teams to create fabrication level mass timber modeling and shop drawing content for CNC and install. This role involves leading design development and contract drawing review for mass timber and other structural systems, managing resolution logs, requests for information (RFIs), and other documentation. The engineer will also be involved in document control, quality control, submittals, MEP Coordination, Meeting Minutes, and Constructability Reviews. A key aspect of the role is managing the tracking and advocacy for design issues from initial submission to closeout and implementation, as well as assisting with internal schedule updates and projections for DC efforts. The position requires using and developing parametric modeling techniques in Autodesk Revit, and assisting the DC team with enhancements to create efficiencies in fabrication-level modeling. The engineer will utilize Revit to create clear progression drawing sets and continuously enhance knowledge in 2D/3D model review via Navisworks, Revit Schedules, and global/shared parameters. Responsibilities also include managing CNC exports for machine language, developing proficiency in modeling for fabrication, managing model transfer to the Fabrication Team, and integrating fabrication-based apps. Further development of understanding the schedule process within the DC team and its impact on pre-con, manufacturing, fabrication, and installation is expected. The role involves performing CNC cut testing review/QC, providing feedback to DC and Pre-Con teams, and partnering with internal teams, A/E teams, suppliers, and vendors on constructability. Managing documentation of partner meetings and action items, leading QC and review with dissimilar trades, and clash resolution are also key duties. Utilizing structural material knowledge to refine DC detailing efforts and practices, and assisting senior team members with feedback loops to consultants are important. The engineer will advocate for ownership goals, architectural visual intent, and Timberlab fab/install during early pre-con efforts. Staying abreast of standards and developing design/detailing standards, as well as assisting with technical marketing materials, are also part of the role. Other responsibilities may be assigned.
