This role ensures digital communications are engaging, accessible, accurate, and aligned with agency brand standards and objectives. Operating under the direction of the Chief Communications Officer, the Digital Communications Lead establishes digital content standards, oversees publishing workflows, analyzes performance metrics, and develops creative strategies that connect the agency with the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Digital Media, Website Design, or related field; supplemented by three (3) years of experience in digital communications, website management, or social media strategy; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience
  • Background check required
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required
  • Proficiency with content management systems (WordPress preferred) required
  • Experience using analytics tools and performance data to inform decisions required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to create compelling, accessible digital content
  • Knowledge of ADA and digital accessibility standards
  • Understanding of user experience (UX) best practices
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently
  • Sound judgment and professionalism in public-facing communications
  • Strong collaboration skills while maintaining independent decision-making
  • Ability to work after hours or weekends as needed

Responsibilities

  • Digital Platform Management:
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve the agency’s public-facing and internal digital platforms, including websites, the intranet, and social media channels, to increase engagement, awareness, and trust.
  • Oversee all editorial, visual, and functional aspects of agency websites, including usability, performance, and compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and accessibility standards.
  • Apply user experience (UX) and accessibility best practices to improve how the public finds, understands, and uses digital information.
  • Ensure all digital content is current, accurate, user-friendly, and aligned with established brand and content standards.
  • Content Creation & Storytelling:
  • Write, edit, proofread, and publish digital content across platforms, translating complex government information into clear, accessible messaging for the public.
  • Lead the creation and execution of social media content, identifying platform-specific messaging approaches and opportunities.
  • Develop creative digital content ideas that connect agency messages to relevant cultural moments and community interests, while ensuring alignment with brand standards, accuracy, and professional tone.
  • Create and adapt multimedia content, including short-form video and livestream programming, to support digital storytelling across web and social media platforms.
  • Maintain and manage digital content calendars to ensure consistent, timely, and coordinated publishing aligned with agency priorities and key initiatives.
  • Collaborate with departments to proactively identify timely stories, updates, and initiatives for digital channels.
  • Audience Engagement & Community Interaction:
  • Monitor and respond to user messages and comments to foster positive community engagement and a high-quality digital customer experience.
  • Guide appropriate tone, responsiveness, and escalation practices for public-facing digital interactions.
  • Platform Leadership & Direction:
  • Serve as the agency’s subject-matter resource for digital platforms, tools, and best practices.
  • Establish and maintain digital content standards, workflows, and publishing guidelines.
  • Help shape digital objectives and priorities as part of the agency’s communications strategic planning process, providing recommendations informed by analytics, trends, and best practices.
  • Develop and deliver training or guidance related to digital content practices, social media use, and platform effectiveness.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of social media and digital communication policies.
  • Analytics & Performance Optimization
  • Analyze web and social media analytics, SEO data, audience behavior, trends, and peer benchmarks to inform platform decisions.
  • Prepare and present regular digital performance reports and insights to the Communications Department and leadership.
  • Use data to refine content strategies and recommend improvements to increase reach, engagement, and effectiveness.
  • Collaboration & Department Support
  • Work cross-departmentally to support timely, coordinated, and effective digital communications.
  • Make recommendations regarding digital tools, software, and hardware to support performance goals and platform effectiveness.
