Digital Analytics Engineer

Hometap
•$110,000 - $120,000

About The Position

Hometap is seeking an early-career Digital Analytics Engineer to own the capture and governance of product and marketing event data. The role manages an ecosystem of roughly 200 product events, including its event taxonomy and tracking plan, to ensure trustworthy data flows into downstream tools. The engineer will be part of the data engineering and analytics team and partner closely with marketing, product, and engineering teams that use this data to make decisions. The role focuses on improving data quality by turning inconsistent tracking into a clear, governed system and ensuring instrumentation is implemented correctly across teams. Responsibilities include auditing and maintaining Segment data, establishing and enforcing standards, advising on client-side and server-side capture, documenting event specifications, and building automated monitoring for tracking quality. Hometap provides a home equity investment product that enables homeowners to access home equity without taking out a loan or selling their home. The company describes its culture as collaborative and highlights its commitment to diversity and equal employment opportunity.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in a Data Analyst, Data Analytics, or similar role.
  • Experience with Segment or a similar customer data platform.
  • Solid grasp of event taxonomy and tracking-plan concepts, including object-action naming, controlled vocabularies, and property typing.
  • SQL proficiency and comfort querying data in a cloud data warehouse.
  • Working knowledge of JSON Schema and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with Git and CI/CD, and an inclination to treat tracking like code by integrating validation and tests into the pipeline.
  • Ability to clearly explain tracking standards to marketing, product, and engineering partners and align non-technical stakeholders on the importance of governance.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the broader analytics landscape, such as Amplitude, Mixpanel, PostHog, or GA4.

Responsibilities

  • Audit the current Segment inventory, consolidate duplicate events and naming drift, and establish a governed object-action naming convention.
  • Build and maintain a navigable tracking plan, deliberately deprecating events as the product changes.
  • Establish enforcement mechanisms so tracking standards are gated.
  • Configure and manage Segment Protocols for schema validation and violation handling, and manage sources feeding downstream tools.
  • Advise product and engineering teams on the hybrid event-capture model and whether events should be captured server-side, client-side, or both.
  • Partner with marketing, product, and engineering to define what is tracked and what it means, translating requirements into well-formed event specifications.
  • Document tracking standards, help teams instrument consistently, and run a process for proposing, approving, and deprecating events.
  • Build automated monitoring for schema conformance, event volume, and property completeness to detect naming drift, type mutation, and shifts before downstream metrics are affected.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation.
  • Healthcare coverage, including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Generous paid time off.
  • Meaningful equity package.
  • Work-from-home stipend.
  • Parental leave.
  • Team-building and camaraderie opportunities.
