About The Position

The Digital Accessibility Specialist III is an experienced accessibility professional who advances accessible digital communications and helps support an effective, university-wide accessibility program. Working in a consultative and educational capacity, this position collaborates with staff, faculty, campus partners and technical teams to promote accessibility across university websites, web applications, email, social media, documents, images, video and other digital content. The coordinator develops scalable guidance, training, tools, documentation and processes that enable digital content creators across Tulane to understand and apply accessibility requirements and best practices. The Digital Accessibility Specialist III demonstrates experience and leadership in promoting and implementing accessibility measures in Electronic and Information Technology (EIT). This position is a key advocate, expert and first contact for the University community on questions about web accessibility. The individual in this role demonstrates strong communication skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of directly related experience in digital or web accessibility; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and working knowledge of Section 508, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other digital accessibility requirements relevant to a complex higher education environment.

  • Experience with Drupal, WordPress or comparable web content management systems.
  • Experience incorporating feedback from people with disabilities into digital accessibility evaluation, guidance or program improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of digital accessibility standards, laws and institutional responsibilities, and the ability to translate them into practical guidance for digital content and services.
  • Experience reviewing websites, web applications and digital content for conformance with accessibility standards and communicating clear, actionable findings.
  • Experience developing digital accessibility guidelines, procedures, workflows and policies.
  • Ability to create clear, concise and usable documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering training, presentations and professional development for audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Ability to evaluate electronic information and digital content using automated accessibility testing tools and manual testing methods, including assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers and speech recognition software.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information, manage multiple initiatives, independently prioritize work based on impact and risk, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, listening and consultative communication skills.
