Requirements

  • Requires bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field.
  • Requires registered dietitian (RD) credential or RD-eligibility with requirement of passing RD exam within 6 months of hire.
  • Requires ServSafe® Manager certification or ability to pass ServSafe Manager® exam within 3 months of hire.
  • Requires possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • ServSafe® Instructor and Proctor certifications preferred.
  • 3-years’ experience working in a food service setting preferred.
  • Previous school nutrition experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the nutritional aspects of the School Nutrition Program (SNP), which administers the National School Lunch, School Breakfast, After School Snack, and Fresh Fruit and Vegetable programs, along with other Federal meal programs and outside contracts.
  • Create a customer-focused climate and provide quality services and support to schools and other stakeholders.
  • Develop menus and recipes to meet federal nutrition regulations with input from students, parents, and staff. Manage effective utilization of commodity inventory.
  • Manage Smart Snack a la carte program. Research products, update product lists, and provide guidance to staff.
  • Develop bid specifications for food contracts, ensuring nutritional and budgetary objectives are met. Attend food shows, collaborate with vendors, and conduct student taste testing.
  • Handle requests for special diets, communicating with parents, school personnel, cafeteria staff, nurses, and physicians. Develop customized strategies for each student to ensure safety and program access. Provide carbohydrate counts to nurses and parents for diabetic students. Attend 504 and IEP meetings. Train cafeteria personnel to meet individual student plan needs.
  • Monitor food service operations to ensure conformance to nutritional, safety, sanitation, and quality standards. Enforce standards and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide relevant staff training. Monitor performance and survey staff to identify needed training. Develop and deliver training.
  • Organize implementation of new breakfast delivery methods (in the classroom, cart service, second chance, etc.). Coordinate with principals, cafeteria staff, custodians, and other personnel.
