About The Position

Provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient clinical nutrition services including nutrition screening, assessment, and education. Develops nutrition care plans. Participates in patient care teams and performance improvement activities. Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation. Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self. Performs essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors and employees. Identifies and reduces unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors and employees. Recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees. Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet. Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must hold a current Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and a current Alabama license.
  • Registry eligible dietitians are acceptable provided they hold a temporary Alabama license or eligible to obtain a temporary Alabama license prior to employment and take and pass the Registration exam within 1 year of employment.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree Preferred.
  • Membership and participation in professional organizations (i.e. Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Dietetic Practice Groups, local Dietetic Association, etc.) is strongly encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Screens patients (pediatric-geriatric) for nutritional risk.
  • Assesses patients found at risk and recommends a nutrition care plan as appropriate.
  • Participates in care planning and patient/family conferences.
  • Provides nutrition education for patients, staff, and community groups.
  • Participates in heath fairs and other community activities.
  • Participates in various committees and performance improvement activities.
  • Serves as preceptor for students.
  • Must adhere to all DCH Nutritional Services policies and procedures.
