Dietitian Nutritionist- Outpatient Pediatrics
About The Position
This is an outpatient pediatric role for a general nutrition and subspecialty feeding clinic. The position is full-time, Monday-Friday, with typical arrival times between 8:00-9:00 am. The role involves assessing and monitoring patients' nutritional status, providing medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and counseling, completing consults and referrals, and communicating with healthcare professionals to integrate nutrition into patient care plans. The dietitian will be responsible for thorough and timely documentation, assessing the effectiveness of patient and family education, developing and utilizing educational materials, and teaching/disseminating nutrition research findings. Additionally, the role includes participating in the training and mentoring of team members and dietetic interns, and providing periodic in-services on selected topics.
Requirements
- Registered Dietitian (by the Commission of Dietetic Registration) and licensed by affiliated state board as applicable OR successful completion of the Registered Dietitian exam and must be registered and licensed within 6 months of employment required.
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition or related field if CDR registration eligibility is obtained prior to January 1, 2024, or minimum of master’s degree if initial CDR registration is obtained on or after January 1, 2024.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the population served.

Responsibilities
- Assesses and monitors nutritional status of patients/clients and adjusts nutritional care as indicated utilizing current scientific literature on methodology and relates this information to medical status, anthropometric data, clinical assessment, and nutrition evaluation of the patient/client.
- Provides medical nutrition therapy (MNT)/counseling including assessment and education, developing, monitoring, and implementing MNT/counseling for patients/clients in assigned areas.
- Completes consults and referrals as received.
- Communicates with physicians, nurses, and others to coordinate nutrition into a total patient/client therapy program.
- Completes all required documentation including nutritional care plan, assessments, consultations, nutrient intake analyses and patient/client education in all required documentation tools in a timely, professional, and thorough manner.
- Provides and assesses effectiveness of patient/client and family education.
- Develops, evaluates, and utilizes appropriate education materials.
- Learning needs are identified using methods appropriate to each learner's developmental and educational level; evaluates and documents learner response to teaching.
- Provides/develops periodic in-services on selected topics to team members and other disciplines as requested.
- In-service development for residents and attending physicians is supervised by clinical manager or designee.
- Under the guidance of the manager or designee, participates in basic skills orientation, training, and mentoring of team members and dietetic interns as applicable.
- Teaches and disseminates results and findings of nutrition research to medical team members, nursing, pharmacy, patients, and public.
- Communicates with multidisciplinary departments on patient/client care and issues, including performance feedback on personnel when requested or applicable to ensure standards of excellence are met for customer satisfaction.
