About The Position

This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Dietetic Technician within our Dietary Unit. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders. Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility.

Requirements

  • CPR
  • MANDT Training
  • First Aide
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to walk and stand for a minimum period of 1 ½ hours at one time.
  • Two years of experience in a Dietary program; or
  • An associate of arts/science degree from an accredited college or university in a dietetic technician or nutrition care program; or
  • Completion of a program of study in food and nutrition or dietetics from a vocational/technical school; or
  • Successful completion of a 40-hour training program developed by the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services and conducted by a Public Health Nutritionist or Licensed Dietitian, and two years of experience as a Cashier in the WIC program.

Responsibilities

  • Checks residents’ trays on tray line for accuracy of food items according to their diets to ensure optimum customer satisfaction
  • Assists in the coordination of the departmental Quality Assurance Program. Carries out studies to determine the acceptability of menu items. Takes tray line time and temperature data to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Provides input regarding residents' preferences in the preparation of menus and distributes menus to dining rooms, tray line, cooks, direct care units and other departments. Prepares items according to menu, production sheets and approved recipes to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Maintains current, accurate record of residents of regular and special diets by receiving phone calls and diet order slips and updating cardex and special diet lists as needed.
  • Maintains current, accurate records of residents on nutritional supplements, labels supplements and coordinates their distribution ensuring all units receive supplements as ordered.
  • Interviews residents for food preferences.
  • Maintains records of the departmental inservices, quality assurance records, menus and production sheets.
  • Writes out night-time snacks, recording special diet information.
  • Coordinates copying and distribution of menus, production sheets and tray markers within designated timeframe.
  • Attends meetings and in service training as scheduled.
