About The Position

Under general supervision, the Dietetic Tech performs skilled and semi-skilled duties related to patients’ nutritional care. Duties include entering dietary information into the computer, maintaining accurate patient profiles, and obtaining patient food preferences. The position completes established competencies within the designated introductory period and performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school graduation or equivalent.
1 to 2 years of experience in a healthcare food service setting.
An ANSI-accredited Texas Food Handler or Food Manager course, or certification as a Food Manager from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District.

Nice To Haves

An associate degree in Dietetic Technician or at least 2 years of college education in Nutrition and Dietetics.
3 to 5 years of experience in a healthcare food service setting and computer experience.
Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association as a Dietetic Technician, Registered.

Responsibilities

Examine diet orders and menus received from hospital units and prepare production sheets identifying foods to be prepared by kitchen staff.
Contact patients to assist with or receive their menu selections.
Process new diet orders and changes to patient diet orders as needed.
Generate and edit patient tray tickets and enter data into the computer when necessary.
Modify diets according to standards established by the Registered Dietitian.
Interview patients and/or caregivers to obtain food preferences when necessary.
Answer telephone calls and relay information about meal changes, complaints, or patient discharges to the Supervisor or Registered Dietitians.
Work on the tray line and check tray accuracy as needed to support timely and accurate patient services.
