About The Position

The Dietary Supervisor is responsible for maintaining high nutritional standards by ensuring patients receive the proper and accurate meal. This role upholds high standards of performance and adheres to Department Policies and Procedures. The supervisor communicates effectively with cooks, dietitians, and other personnel to coordinate effective food service activities. Key responsibilities include scheduling, orientation, and training of new employees, as well as interviewing, coaching, counseling, and assisting in disciplining staff. The supervisor is also responsible for completing employee evaluations within the prescribed timeframe, overseeing overall kitchen cleanliness, and possessing common kitchen safety knowledge. Additionally, they provide in-services to staff and implement measures to control employee accidents within the department. Effective communication with the Food Service Director is essential.

Requirements

  • Must be able to travel to STHS facilities as needed in position
  • Two years experience in a hospital food service department.
  • Must be able to use Office Suite…Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Basic computer skills desired.
  • Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Must have 16 hrs of organized instruction recognized by the Texas Department of health in the form of a Food Service Manager Certification.
  • Upon hire, must be certified by the City of McAllen as a food handler or within 30 days of employment. Must provide proof of renewed certificate to Director.

Nice To Haves

  • Other food related college courses helpful.
  • Prefer Associates Degree.

Responsibilities

  • Must have a working knowledge of food sanitation; knows acceptable techniques in handling and service of food to guests.
