About The Position

Shepherd of the Valley (SOV) is a Christian not-for-profit corporation dedicated to providing 5-star treatment in its healthcare facilities. They offer a range of services including short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing, long-term care, assisted living, independent living, and home health services. This position involves preparing and cooking meals for residents and staff, adhering to menus created by dieticians and complying with federal, state, and local regulations. The Dietary Cook will operate various kitchen equipment, ensure safe meal service, direct assisting workers, accurately follow diet cards, document food temperatures, and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and dietary supplies. Confidentiality of all resident, staff, and organization information is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous cook experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers all food needed for mealtime and reports any shortages to Food Service Director.
  • Plates all food items for residents and staff.
  • Prepares various foods depending on the menu created by the dieticians for each meal of the day, following federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Operates various kitchen equipment in preparation for the meal, e.g., mixer, meat slicer, oven, steamer, etc.
  • Serves meals in a safe manner and follows all requirements.
  • Directs activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals.
  • Accurately follows diet cards when serving residents.
  • Takes and documents food temperatures.
  • Cleans kitchen and all kitchen equipment.
  • Assists in putting away of dietary stock and rotation of dietary supplies.
  • Keeps all coolers clean and organized, including checking expiration dates.
  • Follows portion control guidelines.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident, staff, and organization information.
