Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One year public food service training
  • One year public food service & commercial food preparation experience
  • Understands public customer relations and communicates with the public in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner
  • Maintains current and on-going working knowledge of food preparation
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow standardized recipes
  • Possesses positive, effective communication skills
  • Coordinates skills to accomplish more than one activity at a time
  • CPR certification
  • ServSafe Certification

Responsibilities

  • Prepare equipment for meal service, including steam tables, beverage areas, cash registers, salad bars, tables, seating, and tray set-up stations.
  • Stock units with dishes, silverware, food, beverages, desserts, condiments, and salad bar items in a timely manner.
  • Serve food cost-effectively, adhering to predetermined portioning standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and attractiveness of all department areas.
  • Perform dishwashing services accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain dish machines and pot/pan areas in clean and sanitized conditions.
  • Review menus and assemble food/supplies for daily preparation.
  • Follow standardized recipes and established policies and procedures for food preparation.
  • Prepare specialty items for special functions as directed.
  • Prepare food items for the cafeteria and Meals on Wheels, ensuring attractive presentation and variety.
  • Stock storage areas correctly and report any outages or shortages.
  • Wash pots and pans using correct sanitizing techniques.
  • Sweep and mop floors thoroughly.
  • Receive and stock storage areas.
  • Assist in the care and maintenance of department facilities and equipment supplies.
  • Follow established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental cleanliness, and infection control.
  • Assist in closing the department to ensure safety and security.
  • Correctly assemble meal trays according to diet requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of therapeutic diets by studying the diet manual and attending in-service education.
  • Read and modify menus correctly.
  • Assemble trays on the assigned trayline position, including placing beverages, loading food carts, and delivering meal carts.
  • Keep patient cardex current when taking messages and orders.
  • Prepare nourishment according to therapeutic needs.
  • Prepare accurate counts for trayline services.
  • Comply with all Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and sanitation regulations.
  • Prevent injury by following all safety regulations.
  • Practice infection control procedures.
  • Follow sanitation procedures as governed by State, Federal, and HACCP regulations.
  • Document required cleaning/temperature monitoring and report variances.
  • Maintain temperature charts, cafeteria meal count, and money count daily.
  • Prepare monies in par values daily and request change.
  • Secure cash register when leaving the area.
  • Maintain cafeteria furniture in good condition.
  • Maintain starter station for tray line.
  • Accept all other duties as assigned.
