About The Position

Calvin Community, a not-for-profit senior living community located in the heart of Des Moines' Beaverdale neighborhood, is seeking a dependable and compassionate Dietary Aide to join our Dining Services team. Our mission is to provide high-quality care and services that support the health, comfort, and well-being of our residents. The Dietary Aide plays an important role in creating a positive dining experience for residents by assisting with meal preparation, service, and maintaining a clean and sanitary dining environment. This position requires excellent customer service, attention to detail, and a commitment to resident satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to safely operate dietary and kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Dependable, punctual, and organized.
  • Compassionate and respectful when interacting with residents, families, and coworkers.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous food service, dietary, restaurant, hospitality, or healthcare experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with older adults is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with meal preparation and food service according to established menus and dietary guidelines.
  • Deliver meals to residents in dining rooms and other designated areas while providing courteous and respectful service.
  • Set up and clean dining areas before, during, and after meal service.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment as assigned.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, serving, and dining areas.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures.
  • Properly store food and supplies according to department standards.
  • Assist residents with meal-related requests and communicate concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Work collaboratively with dietary, nursing, and other departments to ensure resident satisfaction.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager or Supervisor.
