About The Position

The Dietary Aide is responsible for assisting with and serving meals and beverages, ensuring food safety standards are met, and maintaining a clean and sanitary dining and kitchen environment. This role involves understanding therapeutic diets, participating in menu planning, and ensuring the safe handling and storage of food. The position requires effective communication within a team, the ability to work under pressure, and adherence to all sanitation and dietary regulations. The work environment is fast-paced and high-stress, with potential occupational hazards and exposure to various environmental factors and infectious diseases.

Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand and move around the facility/campus as required.
  • Ability to be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally within a multi-function, interdisciplinary team.
  • Food safety knowledge.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to read and write English (English as primary language not necessary).
  • Ability to do simple math.
  • Familiar with clinical diets and has the ability to learn special diets.
  • Good personal hygiene.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and serve meals and beverages using facility-specific procedures.
  • Serve meals using safe-handling standards to maintain sanitation and quality.
  • Store stock appropriately to maintain cleanliness and prevent food spoilage.
  • Accurately record meals served as needed and monitor and document food temperatures.
  • Monitor and document heating and cooling food storage equipment.
  • Clean assigned dining areas using appropriate procedures.
  • Wash dishes and/or utensils according to acceptable standards of practice.
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation; complete ServSafe certification.
  • Participate in menu planning as appropriate.
  • Assure safe receiving, storage, preparation, and service of food.
  • Protect food in all phases of preparation, holding, service, cooking, and transportation.
  • Assemble food supplies and equipment needed to complete tasks.
  • Reheat and serve all foods to correct temperatures.
  • Understand therapeutic and special diets and follow physician-ordered diet orders.
  • Be aware of current dietary orders for each resident through review of diet cards.
  • Properly cool and store all foods and leftovers, including covers, labels, and dates.
  • Test food qualities and identify and correct problems before meals are served.
  • Keep working environment clean and in a sanitary condition by developing and monitoring appropriate cleaning processes and schedules.
  • Perform all cleaning duties according to cleaning schedules as assigned.
  • Assist other dietary personnel as needed.
  • Serve residents in the dining room as needed.
  • Ensure all doors are locked to ensure inaccessibility to residents to ensure a safe environment when the kitchen is unattended.
