About The Position

Avalon Health Care is hiring for a Dietary Aide at the E. Roy Stone, Jr. Veterans Pavilion. This facility will transfer to the SC Department of Veteran Affairs from the SC Department of Mental Health on July 1 and will be operated by Avalon Health Care. The Dietary Aide will assist in food preparation and serving, and maintain clean and sanitary conditions in the kitchen and dining areas under the supervision of the Services Manager or Cook.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Food Handler's permit/Serve Safe Certification as per State Requirements.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
  • Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents, families and to work cooperatively with other associates.
  • Must maintain regular attendance.
  • Must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must be able to work in a non-temperature regulated environment (work near ovens, stoves, enter walk-in refrigerators/freezers).
  • Walking, standing, reaching, bending, crouching, grasping, climbing, pushing, pulling and lifting objects.
  • The ability to work at a rapid pace for an entire shift.
  • The employee must regularly lift or move objects or equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and move objects weighing over 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on ladders.
  • Must have finger and hand dexterity sufficient to type, handle and manipulate instruments and operate departmental equipment.
  • Have a working understanding of English; ability to read and write; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to verbally communicate with residents and others; ability to hear and respond.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and serving of meals and snacks using portion control procedures.
  • Assist in cleaning and sanitizing work areas, equipment, floors, dishes, and utensils.
  • Assist in checking trays for menu and diet compliance.
  • Ensure proper storage of foods and supplies.
  • Adhere to universal precautions and sanitary and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that food and supplies are available for the next meals.
  • Assist in inventorying and storing incoming foods and supplies.
  • Report any hazardous conditions, equipment, accidents, and incidents.
  • Comply with company policies involving all safety and infection control procedures.
