Under the direction of the Dietary Manager, the Dietary Aide assists in meal service for hospital patients, staff, physicians, and visitors. This role involves using the EPIC computer system and Cardex to update diet orders and room changes, filling out patient menus according to diet orders and preferences, and setting up patient trays. The aide prepares cold items for trays using proper food safety techniques, stocks patient nourishment areas, and assists the Cook in preparing quality meals. Responsibilities also include taking orders at the Cafeteria window, using the cash register, and assisting with short-order cooking. The Dietary Aide may be cross-trained in cooking duties and fill in for the Cook during absences or heavy workloads. They may also provide diet education materials to nursing staff in the absence of a Dietitian, Dietary Manager, or Cook. Maintaining a safe and sanitary environment through cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work areas is crucial. The role also contributes to good guest relations by resolving concerns and demonstrating a welcoming attitude, while ensuring open and clear communication with co-workers and supervisors.
