Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets, food handling protocols, and safety standards.
  • Ability to read, understand, and accurately follow recipe instructions, diet orders, and safety labels.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient and empathetic approach toward elderly and rehabilitating residents.
  • Must successfully pass a standard background check and meet all state health and immunization requirements for healthcare workers in Rhode Island.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the facility.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in food service, institutional dining, or a healthcare/skilled nursing facility is preferred.
  • ServSafe Certification or a Rhode Island Food Safety Manager Certification is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals, snacks, and beverages in accordance with specific dietary guidelines, tray cards, and established facility protocols.
  • Ensure accurate portion control and strict adherence to specialized, therapeutic, or texture-modified diets (e.g., pureed, low-sodium, diabetic).
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen, dining area, and dishwashing station in compliance with Rhode Island Department of Health and federal regulations.
  • Wash and store dishes, utensils, and culinary equipment properly.
  • Handle, date, and store food properly to meet all safety and sanitation standards.
  • Assist with inventory monitoring, stocking pantry supplies, and proper waste disposal.
  • Communicate warmly and effectively with residents, families, and staff regarding dietary preferences and needs.
