About The Position

Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108-bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment facility for the psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 7-17 years. Newport News has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. This hybrid position will generally perform serving of meals to staff and patients for lunch and dinner service and in between meal periods, and perform cleaning of customer and patient-service areas within the 24-bed Acute Care facility.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in Food Service preferred; at least one year experience in Housekeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Operates dishwashing machine in pulling, loading, and unloading positions.
  • Transports meals between kitchen and café and sets up/tears down the serving line.
  • Food handling qualified to safely serve meals to residents and staff.
  • Maintains adequate stock of food and non-food supplies before and during meal service.
  • Cleans service areas and tables in Acute dining room between meals.
  • Washes and sanitizes pots, pans, utensils, and puts away when dry.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly dish room.
  • Practices kitchen safety rules.
  • Practices high standard for food service sanitation rules and regulations.
  • Maintains high standards of personal hygiene, food service safety and sanitation.
  • Assists in food preparation.
  • Maintains food and supplies in resident and staff snack areas.
  • Maintains stock and sanitation in dispenser machines.
  • Puts food and supplies away in storerooms, refrigerators, and freezer.
  • May train and orient new Food Service or Housekeeping Staff.
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
  • Empties and cleans all trash cans daily.
  • High and low dusts all furniture and surfaces daily.
  • Cleans and disinfects drinking fountains daily.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and doors daily.
  • Terminally-cleans patient bedroom areas, when needed.
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
  • Checks and fills linen supplies.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Follows infection control policies and procedures when handling infectious waste.
