About The Position

Shepherd Village is Toronto’s largest not-for-profit senior community and has been dedicated to the well-being of seniors since 1961. They are committed to meeting the changing physical, spiritual and social needs of seniors through quality care and compassionate service, designed to enhance the quality of life and peace-of-mind of residents, and their family and friends. Shepherd Village is currently accepting applications for the position of Dietary Aide. This role supports the Food & Nutrition Services department within a retirement setting. The Dietary Aide is responsible for the overall care and satisfaction of each Resident and Guest during mealtimes. Reporting to the Manager, Food Services - Terrace, the successful applicant will be expected to represent Shepherd Village in a courteous and professional manner, while maintaining amicable relationships with staff, Residents and their families, in keeping with their Corporate Values.

Requirements

  • MUST be eligible to work in Canada legally for Shepherd Village
  • Completed or enrolled in an approved Food Service Worker program required
  • Grade 12 diploma required
  • Proficient in food preparation and serving techniques
  • Proven safe food handling practices
  • Motivated to provide high quality work & work in an efficient manner
  • Excellent customer service skills & communication
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including standing for prolonged periods of time, push, pull, lift & carry up to 20lbs or 9kg (max)
  • Ability to accept & follow directions and follow company policies and procedures
  • Able to build & maintain good working relationships with residents & coworkers

Nice To Haves

  • Previous food service experience in long-term care or retirement preferred

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the overall care and satisfaction of each Resident and Guest during mealtimes
  • Assist Residents during meals in a respectful and supportive manner
  • Serve meals in accordance with therapeutic diet orders
  • Transport dishes to and from the kitchen before and after mealtimes
