About The Position

The Diet Clerk is responsible for receiving, interpreting, and processing patient diet orders in healthcare settings. This role serves as a liaison between patients, nursing staff, dietitians, and the Food & Nutrition Services Department to ensure patients receive meals that meet physician-prescribed diets and personal preferences.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and data entry.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous healthcare food service, dietary clerk, customer service, or nutrition experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process patient diet orders accurately and timely.
  • Visit patients to explain meal services and obtain food preferences. Ensure meal selections comply with therapeutic and modified diets.
  • Deliver and collect patient meal trays during meal service.
  • Deliver snacks and nourishments as ordered by physicians or dietitians.
  • Communicate patient requests and nutrition concerns to the appropriate team members.
  • Work closely with nursing staff, dietitians, and food service employees to ensure patient satisfaction and nutrition compliance.
  • Maintain sanitation and food safety standards in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
  • Inventory and restock unit pantries, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Maintain temperature logs and required documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
