The Diet Clerk is responsible for receiving diet changes throughout the day, including diet orders, patient admissions, cancellations, transfers, special physician or dietitian orders, and requests for late trays and diet instructions. This role involves checking menus for completeness and accuracy, answering the room service phone, and obtaining meal selections from patients based on their current diet order. The Diet Clerk also prints tube feedings and nourishment labels, maintains department files, and enters supplement and patient preference information into the card file. Additionally, they answer questions regarding dietary procedures, prepare food production reports, print missed meals and tray counts, and manage supply inventory. The position also includes operating a cash register and completing cash handling functions.
