About The Position

Join a team that helps fuel healing every day. As a Diet Aide, you'll play a vital role in delivering safe, accurate, and high-quality meals that support patient health and recovery. You'll work in a collaborative, fast-paced hospital environment, ensuring each tray meets dietary requirements, allergy restrictions, and quality standards before reaching patients. From coordinating with clinical and foodservice teams to maintaining an organized tray line and following rigorous food safety practices, you'll help provide an exceptional dining experience and make a direct impact on patient care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Prior experience in food service or healthcare setting a plus
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, lift heavy items and stand for long periods
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient care
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Flexibility, including a willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Commitment to safety, cleanliness, and responsible food handling standards
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen

Responsibilities

  • Assemble patient meal trays and components with a focus on accuracy, diet restrictions (e.g., IDDSI, cardiac, diabetic), allergens, and presentation to support high patient satisfaction.
  • Label tickets appropriately for diet and allergens (red sticker for Diabetic Diet, blue for allergen, CALORIE COUNT stickers for the calorie count modifier).
  • Assure accuracy and appropriateness of meal including food texture, fluid consistency, appearance, portion.
  • Maintain trayline accuracy by verifying allergens, diet orders, specific items and special requests; escalate discrepancies immediately to the leads or discuss with Unit Hosts.
  • Able to make appropriate substitutions according to meal satisfaction standards.
  • Assure sanitation of meal carts and food service areas.
  • Perform first in, first out.
  • Accurately cover, label and date all food items.
  • Ensure all outdated items are discarded.
  • Accurately document food temperatures.
  • Maintain courteous, considerate, cooperative, and accurate communication with facility personnel, patients, and families.
