Requirements

  • High School graduation required;
  • Knowledge of French (intermediary-advanced), required;
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of diesel automotive / vehicular equipment;
  • 3 years’ experience of which must have specifically involved the repair of trucks or other heavy automotive equipment;
  • Working knowledge of common troubleshooting software ;
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License required, class 1 permit is an asset
  • Considerable knowledge of tools and equipment needed for the overhaul, repair and maintenance of heavy diesel equipment;
  • Ability to keep records of repairs, time and parts used for the servicing of heavy, special purpose automotive equipment, and to make related reports;
  • Skill in the use of instruments and tools employed in the checking and repair of motors and special equipment;
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude, coordination and dexterity.

Nice To Haves

  • Diploma of Professional Studies in automotive mechanic/diesel mechanic preferred;

Responsibilities

  • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts;
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules such as installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, completing winterization procedures, etc.;
  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel and emissions, brakes, steering, and hydraulics;
  • Completes machine shop operations by making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches and traction units;
  • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives and by adjusting controls and systems;
  • Complies with federal and provincial vehicle requirements;
  • Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing and painting;
  • Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs;
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs;
  • Assists other mechanics with the more difficult assignments;
  • Performs layout work for fabrication of parts and equipment;
  • Performs other related work as required.
