About The Position

Leonard Bus Sales is seeking an Automotive Service Technician or Diesel Mechanic in their Middletown, NY location. This is a full-time position with a $4,000 sign-on bonus through December 31, 2026. The company is a family-owned dealership and a recognized leader in the distribution and support of quality school buses in New York. They are looking for technicians seeking to advance their automotive career and become Cummins and Navistar certified technicians. Technicians will work on well-maintained vehicles in a clean, well-lit, state-of-the-art facility. Flexible technician schedules are available, Monday through Friday, with the option of working (4) 10-hour days or (5) 8-hour days. The position offers hourly pay, paid on-the-job training and certification, and opportunity for advancement. A great benefit package and competitive pay are provided, including annual technician reimbursements for tools and boots. The company will also pay you to train and obtain your CDL license during working hours. A referral bonus and sign-on bonus are also offered.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by appropriate technical courses and related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of diesel engine experience, preferably with International and/or Cummins engines.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of airbrake experience.
  • Computer proficiency in web-based programs and applications, Microsoft Office Suite applications and related departmental software, to include researching and looking up information.
  • Experience using diagnostic computer systems.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (with the proper endorsements) for New York State or for the state of residence, which must be maintained throughout employment – OR- ability to obtain said license per written company policy.

Responsibilities

  • Examines buses to determine malfunctions and repairs required and notifies service supervisors of needed repair.
  • Performs intermediate level vehicle and component diagnosis, testing, repair, rebuild, and replacement as required and assigned; including but not limited to diesel, gas, and propane engines and related components; transmissions; brake systems; steering; suspension; cooling systems; wheelchair lifts, electrical, lighting, and safety systems; pneumatic, hydraulic, and air systems; and on-board diagnostics.
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled automotive maintenance on vehicles in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations, statutory requirements and company policies and procedures.
  • Assist higher level technicians in complex major repairs as assigned.
