The Diesel Technician role involves determining vehicle condition through inspections and diagnostic tests, performing preventive maintenance, and correcting vehicle deficiencies by repairing, adjusting, overhauling, and replacing major assemblies and systems. This includes power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, and hydraulics. The technician verifies vehicle performance through test drives, ensures compliance with federal and state vehicle requirements, maintains vehicle appearance, and keeps detailed service records. The role also involves maintaining shop equipment, managing parts inventory, and continuously updating job knowledge. The position is available at Level A, B, and C, with increasing responsibilities and experience requirements. Level B includes electronic diagnostics, minor fabrication, MIG welding, wet kit installation, hydraulic diagnostics, and tire/manifold/turbo repair. Level A adds blueprint comprehension, after-treatment diagnosis, and the ability to work independently at various maintenance locations.
