The Diesel Technician position involves determining vehicle condition through inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts. It includes completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, and performing winterization procedures to keep equipment available for use. The role requires correcting vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, and hydraulics. This also involves completing machine shop operations and making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units. Technicians verify vehicle performance through test drives and by adjusting controls and systems, and ensure compliance with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards. The role also includes maintaining vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting, and maintaining vehicle records by annotating services and repairs. Additionally, the technician is responsible for keeping shop equipment operating by following instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs. Cost containment is achieved by utilizing warranties and evaluating service and parts options. The position also involves managing supplies by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt. Continuous learning is expected through educational opportunities and reading technical and regulation publications. The role contributes to the maintenance department and organization's reputation by taking ownership of new requests and exploring opportunities to add value. Regular attendance and punctuality are required. Specific duties for B-Level include electronic diagnostic of ECM controlled components (sensors, alternator, starter), king pin replacement (except international prostar 2013-2018), minor fabrication (steel, aluminum MIG welding), wet kit installation, hydraulic diagnostics and component replacement, tire fault diagnostics and component replacement, and manifold/turbo removal and installation. All trailer diagnostics and repair are also part of B-Level duties. A-Level duties include blueprint comprehension skills, after treatment diagnosis, moderate MS Office experience, and the ability to work independently following company policies and procedures and perform duties at various maintenance locations.
