About The Position

Interstate Waste Services is hiring experienced Diesel Mechanics to maintain and repair the diesel trucks and heavy equipment that support its operations. The role involves diagnosing issues, performing repairs and preventive maintenance, using computer diagnostics and fleet software, and helping ensure equipment is safe and reliable. This is a union position offering an hourly wage of $29.00–$35.00, overtime after 40 hours, and opportunities to build a long-term career with a modern fleet and equipment.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of diesel mechanic experience.
• Computer diagnostic experience.
• Experience repairing heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Nice To Haves

• Waste industry experience.
• Heavy equipment or “yellow iron” experience.
• Trade school certification or technical training.
• Experience maintaining refuse trucks, roll-offs, and heavy fleet equipment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair diesel engines and major vehicle systems.
• Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, brake, suspension, and air systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs).
• Rebuild and replace major components.
• Use computer diagnostics to identify and resolve issues.
• Complete maintenance records and work orders using fleet software.
• Conduct vehicle safety inspections.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and service calls.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant shop.
• Follow company safety standards and procedures.
