About The Position

The Level B Diesel Technician is responsible for determining vehicle condition through inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts. They will keep equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures. This role involves correcting vehicle deficiencies by repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, and hydraulics. The technician will also perform machine shop operations, make adjustments and alignments, and verify vehicle performance through test drives. Compliance with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards is also a key duty. The role includes maintaining vehicle appearance, records, and shop equipment, while containing costs through warranty usage and evaluating service and parts options. Keeping supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt is also part of the job. The technician will update job knowledge through educational opportunities and technical publications, and enhance the department's reputation by adding value to job accomplishments.

Requirements

  • 1-year experience
  • Must be able to maneuver 100lbs with tooling.
  • Ability to lift/move 50lbs independently.
  • Must have an active valid driver’s license.
  • Able to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical and organizational skills
  • Maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities while working under pressure in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.
  • Adept in conflict resolution
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • ALL duties, responsibilities, and qualifications noted above
  • 2-years’ experience
  • Must have an active valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures.
  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, and hydraulics.
  • Completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
  • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.
  • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
  • Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Contains costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical and regulation publications.
  • Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Performs electronic diagnostic ECM controlled components I.E., sensors, Alt, starter.
  • Performs King pin replacement except international prostar 2013-2018.
  • Performs minor fabrication capabilities, steel, aluminum MIG welding.
  • Performs wet kit installation.
  • Performs hydraulic diagnostics and component replacement.
  • Performs tire fault diagnostics and component replacement.
  • Performs manifold, turbo removal and installation.
  • Performs all trailer diagnostics and repair.
  • Gains an understanding of driver operations and work completed within their daily functions.
