About The Position

Maintain district vehicles operating in a safe and economically acceptable manner to contribute to the educational process of students.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Possess an acceptable driving record
  • Pass the Texas Department of Public Safety physical including drug and alcohol screening
  • Possess an acceptable criminal history check
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with “P” and “S” endorsements
  • Obtain school bus certification
  • Maintain a current DOT physical
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers in small groups
  • Ability to add/subtract two digit numbers and multiply/divide with 10's and 100's
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

Nice To Haves

  • ASE certifications, TASBT certification (desired)
  • Five years experience as a diesel mechanic (desired)

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on district vehicles
  • Complete tire repairs
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner
  • Diagnose and make mechanical repairs on district vehicles
  • Diagnose and repair electrical problems
  • Attend professional development as requested by the Fleet Manager
  • Repair/rebuild brakes
  • Perform tune-ups
  • Maintain tool chest provided by the district
  • Utilize the Automated Fleet Management System
  • Obtain Annual State Inspection License (required within 90 days of employment)
  • Perform troubleshooting and related repairs on district vehicles
  • Maintain the ability to diagnose, repair, rebuild and make necessary adjustments on all vehicle systems
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge and ability to repair components on all systems, including the ability to operate shop equipment
  • Substitute as a Bus Driver or Monitor as needed
  • Texas Railroad Commission certification (required within 180 days of employment)
  • Other duties assigned by Shop Supervisor/Fleet Manager or Director of Transportation
