About The Position

San Luis Garbage, a Waste Connections company, is now hiring for a safety conscious Diesel Mechanic to join the team at our Hauling location in San Luis Obispo, CA! Pay Range: $32.00 - $43.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications) Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday Tuesday-Thursday: 1pm-9:30pm Friday: 12pm-8:30pm Saturday: 6am-2:30pm Why Work With Us? Requirements

  • 3+ years of diesel mechanic experience.
  • Tool set, tool box, and proper personal safety equipment.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn diagnostic software.
  • Class B CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, plus repairs on engines, chassis, body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, cooling systems, wheels, and tires.
  • Inspect equipment and trucks for condition, operations, parts, and fluid levels.
  • Perform 90 day DOT inspections.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulics and aftertreatment systems.
  • Utilize vehicle computer electronics systems for diagnostics.
  • Conduct safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete paperwork using fleet maintenance software.
  • Review and assign repairs from Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Manage a team of trainees and collaborate with other diesel mechanics.
  • Demonstrate strong time management, organization, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Manage repairs of electrical and mechanical components and routine maintenance.
  • Maintain a current CDL license to test drive and deliver as needed.
  • Specialize in Cummins and Paccar engines.
  • Keep a log of repair history in the computer system.
  • Maintain equipment in clean and working condition.
  • Follow corporate and OSHA standards for a clean, safe work area.
