About The Position

Diesel Mechanics are to perform maintenance services in which the volume and quality of work is within the acceptably measured standards for Dayton Freight Lines. This role involves understanding troubleshooting diesel engine systems with ECM diagnostic programs and other troubleshooting techniques. The mechanic will be capable of diagnosing, repairing, and replacing external engine components, and testing and repairing entire truck chassis electrical systems. The position also focuses on developing skills to become proficient in the repair of all major power and drive train components, performing PM inspections and services, and repairing, adjusting, and aligning suspension and brake systems. Additionally, the role includes maintaining the tire maintenance program, performing service calls, washing and fueling equipment, performing vehicle road tests, and other maintenance duties as necessary. A positive attitude, courteous and professional interaction with employees, and developing skills for the care and upkeep of the shop, grounds, equipment, and tools are essential. Maintaining a clean and safe environment compliant with OSHA and company standards, recording work in the EMS system, and working with the Parts Department to ensure proper inventory levels are also key responsibilities. Continuous process improvement is expected.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid Driver's License
  • Basic math skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Able to pass a drug screen

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance services within acceptably measured standards.
  • Understand troubleshooting diesel engine systems with ECM diagnostic programs and other troubleshooting techniques.
  • Diagnose, repair, and replace external engine components.
  • Test and repair entire truck chassis electrical systems.
  • Develop skills to become proficient in the repair of all major power and drive train components.
  • Effectively and efficiently perform PM inspections and services, per DFL policy and time standards.
  • Repair, adjust, and align suspension systems and brake systems.
  • Maintain the tire maintenance program, per DFL policy.
  • Perform service calls, per DFL guidelines or individual location guidelines.
  • Wash and fuel equipment when necessary.
  • Perform vehicle road tests to ensure quality repair service is performed, if qualified.
  • Perform other maintenance duties or assignments, as necessary.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, interact courteously and professionally with fellow employees.
  • Develop skills to become a leading participant in the care and upkeep of the shop, the grounds, and all equipment and tools.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment that complies with OSHA and company standards.
  • Record all work and labor on a computer in the EMS system.
  • Work with the Parts Department to assure that all necessary material; parts, service supplies, and shop supplies are maintained at proper quantity levels.
  • Comply with all Parts Department’s procedures and rules at all times.
  • Continuously improve processes.
