Diesel Mechanic - 2nd shift

A&A Safety Inc.Batavia Township, OH
$37 - $44Onsite

About The Position

A&A Safety is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic for their 2nd shift operations. This role is for a technician who can independently diagnose and repair complex issues on a variety of heavy-duty diesel trucks and specialty equipment, rather than just replacing parts. The position involves working on approximately 350 trucks and trailers and 800 pieces of rolling stock across multiple branches. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver who can handle driveability, performance, and derate faults, as well as aftertreatment systems, high-pressure common rail fuel systems, and electrical/network diagnostics. The role also includes in-frame overhauls, hydraulic system repairs, and brake/suspension work. This is a rebuilding phase for the second shift, offering an opportunity to help shape the team.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience diagnosing and repairing medium- and heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment across multiple engine platforms.
  • Ability to diagnose independently and build your own test plan.
  • Real aftertreatment and high-pressure common rail experience, not just resetting codes.
  • Hydraulic diagnosis and repair experience: pumps, motors, valves, cylinders.
  • Comfortable with OEM diagnostic software and network-level electrical diagnosis.
  • Sufficient commercial brake experience to qualify as an FMCSA brake inspector (typically a year or more).
  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
  • Willingness to work second shift and take part in the on-call rotation.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen, background check, and MVR review.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally or with assistance.
  • Must be able to perform extended standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and overhead reaching.
  • Must have manual dexterity and vision adequate for close inspection and distinguishing wire colors.

Nice To Haves

  • CDL preferred but not required.
  • ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck certification.
  • Engine overhaul experience.
  • UHP pump experience.
  • Construction and specialty equipment background.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose driveability, performance and derate faults across all major engine platforms, including no-code and intermittent problems.
  • Perform aftertreatment service and regeneration fault diagnosis, including DPF service, SCR and DEF systems, and EGR diagnostics, focusing on resolving derates.
  • Conduct high-pressure common rail fuel diagnostics and turbo/VGT diagnostics.
  • Perform in-frame overhauls and cylinder head R&R when feasible.
  • Execute electrical and network diagnostics, including J1939 and CAN bus communication, module communication, and ECM parameters.
  • Repair and diagnose PTO-driven hydraulics.
  • Perform brake service and DOT-qualified brake work, clutch, driveline, suspension, and air system repairs.
  • Manage transmission R&R (rebuilds are sent out).
  • Make decisions on repair, replacement, or outsourcing, and manage warranty capture and root cause analysis for repeat failures.
  • Work second shift (2:00 PM - 10:30 PM, Monday through Friday) and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Perform repairs in various weather conditions and environments, including under vehicles and in confined spaces.
