About The Position

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles, trailers, and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This position supports fleet operations by performing preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs while adhering to company safety policies, DOT regulations, and maintenance standards. The Team Member must maintain a safe work environment, follow Tyson policies and procedures, and demonstrate a willingness to learn the skills needed to support truck shop operations. This role helps maintain a safe, efficient, and reliable work environment by following Tyson policies and procedures, supporting the Tyson safety culture, completing assigned mechanical tasks, and responding to operational needs as directed by supervision. The position requires mechanical aptitude, basic mechanical experience, effective communication skills, and the ability to work in a shop environment that may include physical demands, varying temperatures, and exposure to adverse conditions, while maintaining quality, safety, sanitation, and company policy standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 years of diesel mechanic experience or equivalent technical training.
  • 6 months of continuous employment within the last 2 years
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to obtain forklift and equipment certifications as required.
  • Must be willing and able to perform the following: Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate shop equipment and work around moving machinery.
  • Must be able to read and understand assignments, communicate both orally and in writing, and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Nice To Haves

  • ASE Diesel Certification.
  • CDL License.
  • Experience maintaining Class 8 trucks and trailers.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on diesel trucks, trailers, forklifts, and mobile equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, suspensions, and electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment for safety, operational performance, and maintenance needs.
  • Replace or repair components including engines, belts, hoses, bearings, pumps, seals, starters, alternators, and fuel systems.
  • Utilize diagnostic software, testing equipment, and hand tools to identify equipment failures.
  • Complete accurate maintenance records, repair orders, and inspection reports.
  • Maintain inventory of parts and communicate parts requirements to management.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform emergency repairs as needed.
  • Operate service vehicles, lifts, cranes, and shop equipment safely.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all company safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
