Rate of pay: This is a unionized position. The pay rates are non-negotiable. Requirements

  • Must have high school diploma, GED or equivalent educational credential
  • Five years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic
  • Welding experience
  • Must have a Valid Driver’s License - DOT Medical Card, Hoisting License.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical and electronic systems, and pneumatic systems as it pertains to the operation and maintenance of roadway machinery
  • Employment contingent upon passing pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
  • Also, contingent upon receiving a favorable background check
  • Must be willing and able to travel to any of our MA Commuter Rail locations as required
  • Heavy work, lifting to 50 pounds individually or occasionally up to 100 pounds with a coworker.
  • Must be able to stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis.
  • Shift Work: work hours may include overtime, and various shift work.
  • Involves working outside in all types of weather conditions year-round as assigned.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must pass a physical examination.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
  • Troubleshoot and perform heavy repairs to all types of equipment components including gas and diesel engines, transmissions and differentials, hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, various work heads, booms, electrical systems, and conveyor belt system
  • Solve work related problems, make decisions, and provide instructions
  • Understand mechanical operations of machinery
  • Drive heavy duty service truck, including truck mounted crane
  • Other duties as assigned during emergencies
