About The Position

The Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, and diagnostic assessments on semi-trucks and heavy-duty vehicles. This role ensures that trucks are safe, efficient, and compliant with regulatory standards by identifying mechanical issues, conducting routine inspections, and performing necessary repairs. The Mechanic will work closely with drivers and other fleet employees to understand vehicle problems, provide repair estimates, and communicate maintenance needs. This individual should have strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, brake systems, and hydraulic components, along with a commitment to safety and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior mechanical training or experience.
  • Valid Driver's License, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
  • Pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  • Complete and pass TSA background check or provide HAZMAT endorsement.
  • Uphold, support, and promote all Company policies and procedures.
  • Embrace new technology, including software and industry-specific programs utilized by the Company.
  • Work toward continuous quality improvement.
  • Communicate efficiently with employees via Company-provided cell phone and/or Company email.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Basic mechanical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • BIT inspection knowledge preferred.
  • Trailer repairs, tires, air brakes.
  • Have tools.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • General knowledge of local area, freeways, and traffic laws.
  • Airfreight industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular maintenance on Company trucks and equipment, including oil changes, brake checks, tire rotations, and other routine services.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on semi-trucks and trailers.
  • Conduct detailed inspections of engines, transmissions, brakes, and other systems to identify potential problems.
  • Repair and replace faulty parts, including engines, brakes, suspension systems, steering mechanisms, and other essential truck components.
  • Use computerized diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot issues and identify malfunctions.
  • Test and calibrate parts and systems to ensure they are working correctly.
  • Provide accurate reports on necessary repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance tasks meet safety regulations and Company standards.
  • Perform safety inspections (i.e., BIT) to comply with California Highway Patrol (CHP) Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Keep detailed records of work performed, parts used, and vehicle inspections.
  • Communicate with drivers and fleet employees to understand vehicle issues and discuss repairs needed.
  • Provide accurate estimates for parts, labor, and repair timelines.
