About The Position

This position is responsible for the maintenance and repairs on all diesel, gas, and propane powered equipment. The diesel mechanic maintains engine systems, transmissions, brakes, and electronic components while performing preventive maintenance and complex repairs.

Requirements

  • Must hold a diesel technology certification or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 10-15 years prior experience as a diesel mechanic with a heavy equipment background.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of operation of heavy equipment, hand and power tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, emissions regulations, and vehicle inspection standards.
  • Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check, a pre-employment drug screening, and a pre-employment motor vehicle report.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on all light and heavy equipment.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines and related components.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, tire rotation, and brake checks.
  • Create and manage fleet preventative maintenance and work orders within the CMMS system.
  • Manage mobile equipment replacement schedule in coordination with mill leadership.
  • Maintain critical spare parts and inventory for all rolling stock.
  • Detect development mechanical issues and conduct preventive maintenance to reduce downtime.
  • Utilize the maintenance tracking system to document completed repairs and service.
  • Test and troubleshoot electrical systems, fuel injection systems, and hydraulic machinery.
  • Disassemble engines, replace faulty engine parts, and perform major overhauls.
  • Collaborate with team members and advise supervisors on vehicle condition and future maintenance requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
