About The Position

Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a 1st Shift Diesel Mechanic at our Riverside, California manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for the inspecting, repairing and preventative maintenance of both gasoline and diesel vehicles of Carpenter Co. Assures that all vehicles are available to meet the established shipping schedule to transport finished products to our customers. Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for the inspecting, repairing and preventative maintenance of both gasoline and diesel vehicles, trailers and other equipment of Carpenter Co. Assure that all vehicles are (DOT) compliant and available to meet the established shipping schedule to transport finished products to our customers. This position will have daily communication with other maintenance employees, Traffic Manager, Dispatcher, over the road drivers and other managers and employees in the manufacturing plant. Works in a normal truck shop environment with constant exposure to temperature changes. Uses safety sensitive equipment in the performance of the job. Major challenges involve the timely repair of equipment to make sure equipment is ready to make deliveries to customers on a timely basis.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • 2-4 years of mechanical experience.
  • Basic reading, writing and mathematical skills are essential.
  • Ability to read and interpret a tape measure.
  • Basic computer knowledge and the ability to use computerized equipment in daily operations.
  • Must be DOT Certified in repair areas.
  • Current Driver's License required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime.

Nice To Haves

  • 6-12 months of higher education or technical school training is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Service and repair all tractors, vehicles, and trailers within the Department of Transportation and Carpenter Co. guidelines, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to perform diagnostic tests with computers and other testing equipment.
  • Coordinates the repair and maintenance of fleet equipment through a preventative maintenance program and daily repair schedule.
  • Reports all major mechanical failures that could affect the operation of the Traffic Department.
  • Drop off or pick up vehicles or equipment for service repairs
  • Complete and maintain all documentation properly in accordance with Company and Department of Transportation Policy.
  • Knowledgeable in all of the Carpenter Co. safety rules and regulations.
  • Assures that the Value of Order in the garage is an everyday standard of practice.
  • Must maintain a current Driver's License.
  • Should possess the knowledge and ability to repair a diesel or gasoline engine and the powertrain.
  • Order parts using the purchase order system
  • Pick up trash and other discarded items.
  • Attend all required company meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Ability to read and interpret a tape measure.
