About The Position

Western Truck Exchange is hiring an experienced Diesel Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial trucks in our Los Angeles shop. This role is for someone who can work independently, document repairs clearly, and take pride in fixing trucks correctly the first time. Requirements

  • 5+ years of practical experience in mechanical inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license; must have or be able to obtain a CDL.
  • Proficiency with shop tools and hand tools; ability to supply a basic set of hand tools as applicable by role/level.
  • Basic computer skills for maintenance systems, repair documentation, and diagnostic tools.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and a professional approach to safety and quality.
  • Comfortable working in a non-climate-controlled shop environment.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to customer yards and training sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CAT and Cummins diagnostics and repairs.
  • Experience with Allison transmission maintenance and rebuild-related services.
  • Experience working on International and Mitsubishi Fuso medium-duty platforms.
  • Experience using diagnostic software and electronic service information.
  • Vocational, technical, or OEM certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections, oil changes, chassis lubrication, and related truck maintenance.
  • Inspect trucks for worn, damaged, unsafe, or failing components and communicate findings clearly.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, gasoline engines when applicable, drivetrain and powertrain components, brakes, suspension, HVAC, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, air systems, instruments, gauges, and related truck systems.
  • Repair components such as differentials, transmissions, driveshafts, PTOs, wheel ends, turbochargers, fan clutches, injectors, fuel system components, ECMs, ECUs, and sensors.
  • Use diagnostic tools, service information, scan data, and shop support to confirm faults before replacing parts.
  • Road test vehicles as needed to confirm concerns and verify completed repairs.
  • Document the work performed, parts needed, findings, and repair status in a clear and accurate way.
  • Maintain safe work habits and keep your work area organized.
