About The Position

Ryder is hiring an Entry Level Diesel Technician in Long Island City, New York. This role offers a stable career with weekly pay and a chance to feel good about your work. We provide state-of-the-art diagnostics and tools for our Heavy Duty Vehicle Maintenance Repair Mechanics. This position requires you to drive Ryder vehicles and obtain a CDL within 6 months of hire. Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Basic tools, required
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred
• Ability to understand and communicate effectively
• Ability to work shift work/weekend as required
• Ability to perform all entry level tasks
• Demonstrate mechanical aptitude
• Knowledge of and the ability to apply knowledge of computers
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder Drug Test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check including Drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Nice To Haves

• One (1) year or more experience in transportation maintenance, preferred
• Some experience in transportation maintenance preferred

Responsibilities

• Performs basic vehicle maintenance
• Performs component identification and minor repairs
• Performs preventive maintenance with training and support
• Performs facility maintenance duties
• Perform all entry level tasks
• Diagnoses minor mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Performs other related duties as assigned
