About The Position

The Diesel Mechanic will provide maintenance for MEI's fleet of forklifts (6k lb. to Versa Lift 60/80k), Peterbilt and KW tractors, and Landoll/KS RGN flatbed trailers. This mid-level role involves routine PM service, brake service, and hydraulic systems on diesel vehicles. The mechanic will diagnose vehicle conditions through inspections and diagnostic tests, identify worn or damaged parts, and maintain equipment availability by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component upgrades, controlling corrosion, and performing winterization procedures. The position also includes verifying vehicle performance through test drives, adjusting controls and systems, maintaining vehicle records, ensuring shop equipment is operational, managing costs through warranty and evaluating service/parts options, maintaining inventory, and completing housekeeping duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum two (2) years or more proven fleet mechanic experience (Heavy Equipment and Vehicles)
  • Minimum of 1 year of intermediate skills working in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Responsibilities

  • Perform mid-level mechanic work on diesel vehicles, including routine PM service, brake service, and hydraulic systems.
  • Conduct inspections and diagnostic tests to determine vehicle condition and identify worn and damaged parts.
  • Keep equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures.
  • Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
  • Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
  • Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for extensive repairs when needed.
  • Contain costs by using warranty and evaluating service and parts options.
  • Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
  • Enhance maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value.
  • Complete housekeeping duties in assigned area or project area daily and/or when needed.
