Requirements

  • Two-year college or technical school education, or six months to one-year related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Apply knowledge of mechanical functioning of various components and make necessary repairs.
  • Ability to perform jobs individually and as part of a group.
  • Ability to work on various equipment in varying positions, including crawling under or laying on their back for extended periods.
  • Ability to work with wrenches and tools in various circumstances.
  • Perform jobs utilizing proper body mechanics.
  • Perform repairs according to US DOT regulations and specifications.
  • Comply with all company safety-related rules.
  • Work with safety-related equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is made safe before performing work.
  • Ability to understand written instructions and repair write-ups.
  • Ability to understand service/repair manuals.
  • Computer keyboard skills or ability to learn through training.

Nice To Haves

  • DOT inspector training certificate (upon request).

Responsibilities

  • Read job orders and observe/listen to trucks to diagnose malfunctions and plan work.
  • Diagnose and repair/replace failed or malfunctioning components such as transmissions, engines, rear axles, gear boxes, and hydraulic components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems related to equipment and components.
  • Diagnose and repair problems related to hydraulic components, steering systems, and brake systems.
  • Service equipment, including greasing trucks and changing oils/fluids.
  • Perform welding for equipment repair and fabrication of components/parts.
  • Operate cutting torch and gas welding equipment.
  • Operate shop tools such as power drills, power saws, and related power tools.
  • Operate air tools, chipping guns, scalers, impact guns, and related air tools.
  • Operate service truck or tow truck with the required license.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with employees, suppliers, and customers.
  • Promote the company's professional image and reputation, ensuring timely problem resolution and customer satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the director of fleet.
