About The Position
Under general supervision, performs preventive maintenance services and inspects, diagnoses, and repairs vehicles and equipment. The role works from written instructions and established procedures with limited supervision. The normal work setting is a repair and maintenance shop at WM’s Rio Rancho, New Mexico hauling site. The position is a night-shift role, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays. Starting pay is $25–$32 per hour, depending on experience. The position has no supervisory duties.
Responsibilities
- Perform repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
- Use vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes and initiate or assign repairs.
- Estimate time and material costs for vehicle repairs and requisition new parts.
- Complete work within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
- Respond to emergency breakdowns through service calls.
- Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
- Complete required fleet maintenance software paperwork, including documenting parts usage and accounting for repair times.
- Assist senior Mechanics with project work.
- Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate and OSHA Standards, and follow established safety procedures.
