About The Position

Waste Connections is seeking an experienced Heavy Truck Mechanic to join their maintenance team. This position is ideal for a skilled technician with a strong background in diesel repair, heavy equipment maintenance, and waste-industry fleet operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of refuse trucks and related equipment while ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with company standards.

Requirements

3+ years of heavy-duty mechanic experience required.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and air brake systems.
Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues.
Own hand tools required.
Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience maintaining refuse trucks or waste-industry fleets strongly preferred.
Waste industry fleet maintenance.
Refuse truck body repair and troubleshooting.
Preventative maintenance program experience.
Welding and fabrication experience.
ASE and/or OEM certifications.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel-powered refuse trucks and heavy equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance on front load, rear load, side load, roll-off, and support vehicles.
Repair and maintain engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, steering, and suspension components.
Utilize diagnostic software and tools to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
Complete work orders accurately and maintain maintenance records.
Conduct safety inspections and ensure DOT compliance.
Respond to breakdowns and perform emergency repairs as needed.
Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
