Requirements

  • Two-year college or technical school education; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Apply knowledge of mechanical functioning of various components on the equipment and make necessary repairs.
  • Ability to perform jobs individually and work with others in group situations.
  • Ability to work on various equipment in varying positions, including crawling under or laying on their back for extended periods.
  • Ability to work with wrenches and/or tools in various circumstances.
  • Perform jobs utilizing proper body mechanics.
  • Perform repairs according to US DOT regulations and specifications.
  • Comply with all company safety-related rules.
  • Work with safety-related equipment to perform duties.
  • Ensure equipment is made safe for oneself and other employees before performing any work.
  • Ability to understand written instructions and problems written up concerning necessary repairs.
  • Ability to understand service/repair manuals relating to equipment/parts.
  • Computer keyboard skills and/or ability to learn through training.
  • DOT inspector training certificate (upon request).

Responsibilities

  • Read job order and observe truck operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures.
  • Diagnose and repair/replace various parts/components on heavy-duty trucks and related equipment, including transmission, engines, drain lines, rear axles, gear boxes, and hydraulic components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems related to equipment and its components.
  • Diagnose and repair problems related to hydraulic components, steering systems, and brake systems of equipment.
  • Service equipment, including greasing trucks and related equipment, and changing oils/fluids.
  • Perform welding of components necessary for repair or fabrication of parts.
  • Operate cutting torch and gas welding equipment.
  • Operate shop tools such as power drills, power saws, and related power tools.
  • Operate air tools, chipping guns, scalers, impact guns, and related air tools.
  • Operate service truck or tow truck with required license.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with company employees, suppliers, and customers.
  • Promote and maintain the professional image and reputation of the company.
  • Ensure timely problem resolution and customer satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the director of fleet.
