About The Position

At Custom Truck One Source (CTOS), we design, assemble, sell, rent, and service trucks, cranes, and heavy equipment. We proudly support some of the nation’s largest utilities, telecom, construction, forestry, oil, and rail companies. We are seeking an experienced Service Technician / Diesel Mechanic with at least 5+ years of experience working on medium- and heavy-duty trucks. This role requires strong diagnostic skills, hands-on mechanical expertise, and the ability to efficiently identify and repair a wide range of equipment issues. Technicians will work on truck chassis, diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and truck-mounted utility equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with diesel, medium/heavy-duty trucks, or related equipment (construction, agriculture, military)
  • General mechanical aptitude (hydraulics, electrical, heavy equipment)
  • Basic computer skills and ability to document repair activity
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must supply own tools
  • Strong diesel engine diagnostics and repair (mechanical & electrical)
  • Preventative maintenance and visual inspections
  • Proficient with diagnostic software and scan tools
  • Ability to interpret fault codes, engine data, and system performance
  • Working knowledge of diesel engines, drivetrain, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Cummins INSITE diagnostic software
  • Detroit Diesel DiagnosticLink (DDDL)
  • OEM and aftermarket diagnostic tools
  • Electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational/Technical training or Military Wheeled Mechanic experience
  • 3+ years of utility truck or heavy equipment repair experience
  • CDL Class A or B (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and replace worn or damaged components on vocational and utility trucks
  • Perform preventative maintenance and detailed inspections
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Service truck-mounted equipment including boom trucks, bucket trucks, diggers, dump trucks, service trucks, forestry equipment, and aerial devices
  • Use diagnostic software and scan tools to identify faults and performance issues
  • Complete and maintain accurate service and repair records
  • Submit work orders for approval and ensure repair costs are tracked accurately
  • Follow all safety procedures and attend monthly safety meetings
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
