About The Position

A Technician II independently and collaboratively services semi tractors, trailers, pickups, and other large heavy vehicles and equipment. The role performs DOT inspections, replaces parts, diagnoses and repairs vehicle systems, and uses computer diagnostic systems. This is a year-round position based at Manatt’s Ames, Iowa shop. The technician works overtime on a regular basis. Wages are based on experience.

Requirements

Working knowledge of major truck components, diesel engine diagnostics, hydraulic and electrical systems, and preventive maintenance.
Ability to use manufacturer computer software to diagnose and repair electronic systems.
Strong communication, analytical, and basic computer skills.
Must have own tools.
Must have an acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

Class B CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate the skills of an Apprentice and Technician I.
Perform DOT inspections.
Replace disc and drum brake parts.
Diagnose and repair complex lighting issues and DOT air systems, air-conditioning systems, and power-steering systems.
Replace engine-related parts, including water pumps, thermostats, EGR valves, and air compressors.
Perform clutch jobs and suspension rebuilds.
Use basic computer diagnostic systems and manufacturer computer software to diagnose and repair electronic systems.
Perform basic welding related to equipment maintenance and repair.
Communicate repair needs to leaders.
Consider parts availability, shop space, and time management when making repair decisions.
Stay on task and maintain a flexible schedule.
