Diesel Mechanic Maintenance - 1st Shift (Williams Sausage Truck Shop)
About The Position
This position, formerly known as Williams Sausage Company and newly named Greenfield Drive Truck Shop, is a full-time Food Production – Maintenance (Diesel) Mechanic role. The Truck preventive maintenance technician will work cross-functionally across multiple areas of the garage. Responsibilities include performing routine preventive maintenance repairs on trucks and addressing emergency mechanical or electrical failures, all while complying with Department of Transportation rules and regulations, maintaining a safe work environment, and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Six (6) months of Diesel Mechanic experience or graduation from a Diesel Mechanic Training Program.
- Experience must be documented on application or resume (total of at least six (6) months of experience).
- Six (6) months of continuous work history with one (1) employer within the last twenty-four (24) months.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Basic math skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to diagnose and repair truck engines and systems with diagnostic programs.
- Ability to perform minor structural welding and cutting tasks.
- Ability to safely apply knowledge and troubleshooting skills to all assigned equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all transportation personnel including managers, drivers, and clerks.
- Willingness and ability to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Nice To Haves
- Prior Tyson workers will have a minimum rehire waiting period of 180 days and are limited to 3 times of employment.
Responsibilities
- Performing routine preventive maintenance repairs on trucks.
- Performing emergency mechanical or electrical failures.
- Complying with Department of Transportation rules and regulations.
- Maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures.
- Reading and interpreting instructions, manuals, and schematics.
- Performing service calls on equipment at remote locations.
- Documenting information, processing daily work orders, and completing required documentation using basic computer skills.
- Diagnosing and repairing truck engines and systems using diagnostic programs.
- Performing minor structural welding and cutting tasks.
- Safely applying knowledge and troubleshooting skills to all assigned equipment.
- Effectively communicating with all transportation personnel including managers, drivers, and clerks.
- Advancing to ME02 within 12 months of hire date.
- Showing proficiency with all tasks before advancement, including completing the preventive maintenance process and having work reviewed by Shop Manager/Supervisor.
- Identifying fault codes.
- Performing basic electrical tasks.
- Completing Wheel end class/certification.
- Obtaining Brake Inspector Certification.
- Showing proficiency on standard preventive maintenance (PM1’s, PM2’s for trucks or trailers depending on mechanic classification).
