About The Position

Academy Bus is seeking a full-time Diesel Bus Mechanic (Class A) for our Richmond, VA location. This role involves the repair, troubleshooting, and diagnosis of modern tour buses, including reconditioning, preventative, and routine maintenance. The mechanic will also be responsible for inspections, road tests, warranty and repair documentation, and the diagnosis, inspection, installation, disassembly, and cleaning of various bus components. The position requires bus experience, specifically with Cummins and Detroit engines, and the ability to respond to road calls and perform basic welding/fabrication. Class A Mechanics will also train and supervise other mechanics and cleaners.

Requirements

7+ years of diesel engine maintenance
Proficient in the use of diagnostic devices such as: DDEC readers, ATEC readers, SmarTire, schematics, AIC (Freon) recovery and charging equipment
Proven ability to use hands tools, power tools, hydraulic jacks, welding equipment, and testing instruments
Must have own tools
Valid driver's license
Basic computer skills

Nice To Haves

CDL License with Passenger and Airbrake endorsement is a plus
Willingness to obtain a CDL License is also desirable

Responsibilities

Repair, troubleshooting and diagnosis of modern tour buses

Warranty and repair documentation
Diagnosis, inspection, installation, disassembly and cleaning of components such as: brakes, suspension, tires, bearings, seals, radiators, water pumps, coolant hoses, alternators, regulators, steering components, oil/air filters, door assemblies, controls, seats, belts, electric motors, pneumatic valves, cables, and linkages.
Must have bus experience, specifically working on Cummins and Detroit
Respond to road calls
Basic welding/fabrication
Train and supervise Mechanics and Cleaners
